走向可穿戴技术

It may seem far-fetched to suggest that “Star Trek fashion” will be in style with people walking around wearing amped-up watches, eyeglasses, rings and bracelets. But then again, 15 years ago it seemed futuristic to think that people would use their smartphone to email, surf the web, play games, watch videos, manage calendars, listen to music and navigate driving directions.
As this trend emerges, wearable devices are generating substantial interest from businesses based on their potential to drive the next wave of growth in consumer electronics. First, it was smart phones, then media tablets that were the most recent consumer electronics innovation to propel industry growth, reaching combined sales of approximately 1.3 billion units annually. Now it looks like the wearable revolution could emerge faster than the mobile revolution that preceded it. Thanks to the technology revolution that shaped today’s smartphones, sensors and chip sets are smaller and cheaper than ever, making it easier for companies to incorporate sophisticated hardware into wearable devices.
Wearable devices hold the potential to eventually sell hundreds of millions of units annually if they can effectively address consumer interests by simplifying and/or improving quality of life.
Broad-based consumer adoption of wearable devices is contingent upon product designer’s ability to effectively address consumer interests; some of the wearable devices in the market today contain features that do not address key consumer interests and are effectively “technology demonstrations” in search of a customer. While there will be niche markets for some of the current or envisioned wearable devices, in order to scale beyond early adopters, wearables will need to innovate along the three axes of functionality, simplicity and convenience. Products like smart watches, fitness bands, action cameras and mobile healthcare devices best satisfy consumer interests and are expected to drive the highest growth rates.
But will wearable devices be the demise of our beloved smartphones?  In the foreseeable future, wearable devices will generally exist as companion devices to smartphones. There are two dominant smartphone ecosystems today, Apple and Google. Of the smartphone leaders, Apple and Samsung, in addition to challengers such as the Chinese indigenous smartphone makers, are best positioned to effectively link together new wearable devices with smartphones. This will provide them with a distinct market advantage.
There is also the added opportunity of new business collaboration; companies like Apple, Google and Samsung could seek partnerships with existing medical device manufacturers to enable mobile healthcare devices or team up with fashion luxury brands for devices like smartphones and fitness bands.
