If you use a PC with the IO Libraries and the Connection Expert, the scope should show up when connected via USB. You can use the address string that's shown to talk to the scope. It will contain 'USB' in it rather than a GPIB or IP address.

  You could examine the USB port with a USB viewer on a PC but other than learning what USB class(es) it represents, you're probably out of luck.

One other thought though.  If your DSP by chance has an Ethernet interface, that would be an option that avoids the ugliness of USB in the absence of drivers.  Various ADI Blackfins, for instance, have internal Ethernet MAC controllers (but I believe need external PHY).
