I am not that good in circulators, but I do not think that they have better directive (the isolation is about 20dB) as the internal coupler/bridge (isolation >25dB).

What power did you used? Once you omit internal coupler you power to receiver will increas by at list 16dB (not sure if the PNA coupler is 16 or 20dB).
I am not sure what is the loss of circulator between port 2 to 3. I will assume it is lower then typical coupler. You may compress the receiver during the calibration if you put like 0dBm.
